Summer is the time for relaxing and playing with family and friends. It’s important to keep kid’s minds and bodies rejuvenated and engaged while they’re on break from school. Remember the games you used to play outside from sun up to sun down? Here are a few outdoor games we need to bring back for our children to love:
Freeze Tag
This twist on the classic game of tag is fun for everyone. When the player who’s “it” tags you, you must freeze where you are. Another player can “unfreeze” you at any time, as long as they’re not frozen first!
Hopscotch
Just add chalk and a rock! Draw a hopscotch grid with one and two-foot jumps then toss a rock onto the grid. Jump over the square with the rock on your way out, and turn around at the end. On your way back, pick up the rock while balancing on one foot, skipping the square it was in. Repeat as needed for fun.
Hide And Seek
Easy and fun for all. Gather a group and decide who will be “seeker”. They will close their eyes and count to 30 while the rest of the group hides. When done counting, the seeker finds the rest of the players. Whoever is found last wins.
Simon Says
Standing in a group, “Simon” leads the other players by saying “Simon says, [insert action]”. If Simon makes a request without saying “Simon Says”, any player that moved is out. The winner is the last man standing, who will become the next Simon.
Marco Polo
This tag variation is played in a swimming pool and involves the “it” person to swim around with their eyes closed, yelling “Marco!” to which the other players respond “Polo!”. The “it” person tries to tag another player, who is then “it”.
